BACK STAGE SPOTLIGHTS

Well here I am as promised to give you a wee glimpse of what goes on backstage and moreimportantly who’s who in the magical world of Buckhind Players. So Let’s start by shiningour spotlight on the boss, our chairperson and in-house director, Rachel-Jane.

Rachel is a theatre maker and drama practitioner and we’re very lucky to have her here volunteering with us at Buckhind Players. Rachel comes with quite an accolade: a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Fife College, as well as the recipient of multiple awards-alocal hero if you will.

Therefore, she has plenty of knowledge and experience to impart onus, to hopefully get us ready for Panto week. Although I’m sure we may cause her a fewheadaches along the way.Rachel is head of the production team and director of the Panto, so has a lot to do. As wellas her own work, I don’t know how she finds the time, but she always gives us her all, andthat includes driving around in her car with her back seat looking like a mobile wardrobedepartment.
She is also partial to the odd charity shop browse, where she will go in for awee nose and come out with 2 or 3 massive bag loads. When she goes into Panto mode, that’s it – whole living rooms and halls are taken over with an array of costumes and props. Then there’s the rehearsals; it’s non-stop running our lines, practicing songs and danceroutines. Also let me tell you all, there is nothing scarier than when you’re on that stage andRachel’s sitting next to our stage manager Lauren C and stops you mid-line and says “oohI’ve just had a great idea”, then her and Lauren start whispering and laughing to each otherand start scribbling notes on their scripts!! You just know your character is either gettingroped into doing something daft or wearing something outrageous – oh how we suffer forour craft!! Haha.As Panto draws near, I’ll leave you all with this quote from the woman herself and lookforward to shining the spotlight on another cast or crew member in my next blog post.“I’m really excited by the group this year, it’s a lovely blend of returning faces and newones! We’re at the fun point in rehearsals where scripts have been left on chairs andcharacters are really starting to come into their own. I can’t wait to bring this magical tale tothe stage in Buckhind once again” Rachel-Jane - Director at Buckhind Players.
